The Journeyman Cometh- very soon – in fact – next week at the Flora Twort Gallery in Petersfield – just in case you’d forgotten!

I certainly haven’t and have been so busy painting, mounting and organising this exhibition that I haven’t had time to blog or post on facebook. I can’t believe how much time it has taken up but it has been fun. I’ve created a book of most of the images on show and some that are not(due to lack of space and the fact that several have already been sold) It contains a couple of my verses as well and is available to buy by following this link www.berylnoyce.com/journeyman/. As most artists will know I have already begun to move on from where I was when many of the images were created but when some of them are two years in the making it’s not a great surprise. I am already working on a series of watercolour and oil images inspired by a walk around Frensham Ponds in Surrey two weeks ago. Possibly the subject of my next show. Meanwhile, back to the present and I just thought I’d share with you which of my paintings on show is my personal favourite. The winner is…

The City Angels: Night Express.

Another painting recently completed and hopefully being submitted for the RA Summer Exhibition is this more realistic yet slightly surreal painting which I’ve called ‘Bitter Fruit’ for obvious reasons.

It is very much a painting which revolves in more ways than one around issues of transition. Somehow all of my paintings go beyond the pictorial into a deeper narrative. Try as I might I just seem to be drawn to finding a meaning in the simplest of images.

After nearly two years I finally resolved the City Angel Painting which looked like this when I last posted it

and now  it looks like this.

I’ve called it City Angels: Night Express; Oil on Canvas; 20 x 30in

I think it illustrates how the making of a picture is very much a journey of discovery. Talking of which my forthcoming exhibition is called The Journeyman because it illustrates both the journey we make as individuals in relating to our world and the impact that journey can have.

Personally I like this interpretation and feel I am drawing closer to marrying the representational with the abstract- two areas of my artistic expression which constantly provide tension and dilemma. As I explore more and more abstract perception of the real so I seem to want to counteract it with fine, strong drawing elements in my other work.
